Thinking of deploying a PocketPC CRM solution to our sales force and I am
concerned about security. Should their handhelds fall into the wrong hands,
we'd be in a bad situation.

Is there a way to force a WinXP client-style ctrl-alt-del on start up and
have them enter a password?

Thanks,
JM

The IPAQ 5455 & 5555 series have password at startup and biometric
fingerprint reader for security as standard

I own and use an IPAQ 4155.  Under Settings, there is an option to
enable passwords; fairly self explanatory.  There is a check box that
can be used to require a password prompt if your device is unused for
X amount of time.

You can also opt to require a simple 4 digit password or a strong
alphanumeric password.

What it doesn't say, but I discovered, is that if you turn it off and
turn it back on, it requires a password again.

I haven't had to do a hard-reset, so I don't know what would happen in
that instance, but after soft-resets, you're still required to enter a
password.

Hope this helps some.

Think that what you want to hear is the robustness of the password.

It's pretty simple, if the user looses the password, the only option is
to hard reset the device and all information in RAM will be permanently
lost.

With that in mind, any data stored on memory cards will be accessable
with any pc using a card reader, so that will have to be protected
separately by your app.

Take a look at NMS for PDA available from
http://www.pocketpc-solutions.co.uk/nms_pda.htm as this will give you the
protection you are looking for.
