Hi. I'm looking for recommenations on what type of paper to use for my
DVD inserts. By inserts, I mean the paper that goes inside the DVD
case and slid under the two plastic clips. I don't mean the DVD cover
insert (I've been using Meritline Matte DVD Case inserts for that).

I'm printing on two sides of the paper and folding it in half, so when
I use just plain ol' printing paper, the ink bleeds through. Also, it
looks and feels fairly cheapo.

Simple solution. Thanks! Here's a follow-up question. I found
something called DVD Case Booklet Inkjet Gloss, but it says that for
inkjet, it is only glossy on one side. Does that mean it should only
be printed on one side? I was hoping to print on both sides (with my
inkjet). They do offer a Laser version that is glossy on both sides,
but I'm concerned that it will not print properly on my inkjet.
Thoughts?

I use ordinary "coated" stock from the traditional suppliers
(used for old-fashioned offeset printing, etc.) I think it is 60
pound (pretty thin) for the "U-card" that is sandwiched in the
jewel case, and 80-pound (heavier) for the front inserts (whether
single or folded.) But this is for laser printing. The coated stock
isn't made for inkjet and it does't do very well (too much bleed).

For inkjet, I haven't found any substitute for real "ink-jet photo"
type paper. And as you say, there doesn't seem to be any available
in "double-sided". I sometimes print the outside with inkjet (color)
and the inside with laser (black only).

I am experimenting with cheaper "photo paper". The stuff I ran
last night (from Meritline) seemed pretty good.

I second Richard's recommendation - coated stock. If you have an inkjet, use
inkjet specific "glossy photo" stock.
Kodak (and others) make double sided, though you have to do some searching.
(Staples/Business Depot has it locally)

Also: if you're doing a lot of DVD's with full sleeves and inserts, it's
been my experience making a single master using a 1200+dpi inkjet printer on
high-quality, glossy paper and then photocopying on a Colour Laser copier is
the fastest, most economical method. Inkjets guzzle ink.

Once you get in to the "500-1000 disc run" range, it's cheaper to have a
professional duplication house do the work.
(at least in this part of the world)

The best high gloss material I have found, which you don't have to cut down
from a larger page of stock material, are the Neato DVD case booklets. I
have tried all sorts of supposedly high gloss materials from a number of
company's only to find the paper is high gloss but the ink seems to dull the
finish once they are printed on. The high gloss case inserts and case
booklets from Neato stay glossy and the color lays on really nice, crisp and
rich in saturation.

I don't sell Neato products. I do use them though.

Now I use 'em, too. I ordered DVD Booklet Inserts from Neato over the
Internet. The arrived fast and fit the bill. I opted for the Photo
Matte variety, as the glossy was twice as expensive and beyond my
needs.
