Hi,
Currently I have a Linksys router which doesn't support the PocketPC VPN
Client. Can someone suggest a router that is compatible with the built-in
client? I was looking at the USR8200 but it doesn't say on the web site if
it is compatible. TIA.

Do you mean as far as PPTP pass through to a PPTP server behind the router or as an PPTP VPN
end-point?

The Buffalo Technology WBR-G54 4-Port Broadband Router/Wireless Access Point that I use supports
PPTP pass through if you forward TCP Port 1723 and *manually* configure Port 47 with *NO* protocol
declared. I have also used a Linksys BEFSR41 (original version) in the past for PPTP VPN by
forwarding TCP Port 1723 and enabling "PPTP Pass Through" in the router.

I don't know of any end-point VPN routers that do PPTP, other than as a pass through option. Perhaps
someone else does...

unit runs embeded linux and does both pptp and ipsec vpn.

Al,
No, not pass through, I'd like the router to be the PPTP server. I'm pretty
much ignorant about all this - like the saying I know enough to be
dangerous. I do have VPN working with my notebook to my Linksys router, but
couldn't find a client to work with my PocketPC. Also, the cost of the
clients are too high for home use.

I figure it is time to upgrade my router anyway so why not find one that
supported both PocketPC and WinXP PPTP clients.

Again, showing my ignorance here, I'm reluctant to open any ports on my
router. No government secrets and I do backup frequently, but I hate to
leave something open that is well known and could be exploited. I do use my
PC for work and really try to keep it virus/spyware free and wouldn't want
to come back to see a C:> prompt. Think I'm being too paranoid about
opening the port?
