After buying DVStorm It turned out to be incompatiable with my
athlon64 (socket 754) with Asus K8V mobo setup.

I'm now considering several ways to work DVStorm2 into my setup
anyway.

However, I'm very inexperienced in many aspect of this kind of
project.

I'm thinking of setting up a gigabit lan with another Intel (celeron)
machine (assuming DVStorm2 works well on it) then install gigabit lan
card in Celeron since Athlon64/Asus setup has it built in already
and see if that network speed is enough to make moving the monster
avi's across and still be using Storm for capture and out to
monitors. Not to mention real time editing in Edius2.5.

Maybe one could even capture to the network... I have no idea if
something like that can work.

Another setup might be a communal Fireware drive. But again I'm not
sure if one can firewire two machines to an fw drive and run stuff
from on machine to another.

I'd like to hear from anyone using something similar to above.

Capture to a local shared drived and share the files over gigabit. That will
work fairly well. If you explain your workflow a little we may be able to
help more.

I've never used gigabit lan yet but give me an example of transfer
time for 10GB if you can.

Well, my work flow is actually non-existent but when working, it
consists of event videography.(my wife is the camera person) weddings
etc. conversion from vhs or other conversions to dvd. LP records to
DVD. Stills in anthologys (imaginate stuff) and in general all the
assorted little stuff a small timer can do.

I built up an athlon64 on Asus K8V for this work but found now that
the DVStorm2 won't run on it. So trying to use the DVStorm in another
machine yet do the editing on Athlon64 machine. or both.

Also considering building up a system the Strom will run on.

The spec is ten Gigabit. or ~ 100MB/sec. But there are other factors which
may impact that speed.

Not sure a DV Storm is necessary. If your sources are DV or SVHS you only
need a firewire card and a DV bridge.
That said, it will still be good to design your workflow so you aren't
tossing 10GB between machines. Once you start working you will see
opportunities to tune your workflow. Weddings and event video are no
different than any other work as far as I am concerned. Still takes time and
effort and the best videography you can provide.
