I just sat through Darkest Hour - Undoing Ruin to test out some new hardware and decided it might be the best album ever written. From beginning to end I struggle to find a flaw. I know this is an extremely subjective/opinionated subject, especially with the great variety of styles of heavy music, but man it's good.

If you haven't heard it, I highly recommend listening to it. And don't be turned off by Darkest Hour's newer stuff - it's alright, but after they lost their lead guitarist who influenced the writing a great deal, they have digressed some. I feel like they lost the edge or balance that made them so great. There are a few songs on their website from undoing ruin. With a Thousand Words to Say but One is the first track and might be a good jumping off point. The other songs are very good as well but the record flows so well it would be a dis-justice to listen out of order.

If you have heard it, I would love to get opinions of what you guys think is better (if you don't agree). Maybe I'll discover something new, which would be great!

Melodic Death Metal.

hmmmmm.... i do like some of it but its very hard to listen to most bands who do it, they make it tuneless noise playing all their instruments like they're on speed...but i'll have to give them a look so

It's heavily influenced by Swedish Death Metal, so it does carry a melody. The breakdowns aren't what I classify as "tough guy" either, where they just shotgun the bass drum and continuously hammer on one chord. They add value to the song and usually feature a solid guitar or drum solo.

ah the sweeds and their death metal!!! :D they truely cant get enough of it

now that is some quality metal!!! the only down side i could see is that the leads voice is not that great, like i like it but they really could do with a better one, like howard jones for killswitch engague, now that man can sing metal!!!!
the only other band like that i sort of listen to was xerath but there ok, not nearly on the same level as those guys,.....mixed with one or 2 songs from cradle of filth, but i'm more into the regular metal as opposed to death metal, the likes of machinehead, 5 finger death punch, metallica, that sort of thing
:bounce:

You'll get no arguments from me.

There still is nothing like old Metallica. Ride the Lightning was what really turned me on to heavier music all those years ago.

ya man, they truely are the greats! i mean they are so diverse in what they can do, from straight up old school speed metal to mixing it with an orchastra and they going with softer rock, and the funny thing is i never really liked them till i saw they live, now that was a sight, i have to see them again, if only they come to ireland!!!!

Darkest Hour is really good bro! Though my favorite band ever is The Black Dahlia Murder. Their newest album, Ritual, is what I would say in the upper echelon of the best extreme metal albums ever recorded. Has some melodic material, and a lot of blasts, thrash beats, tremolo picking, growls, and high screams. Ugh, I can't say enough good things about that album. I share your enthusiasm for an album with stunning qualities, hasten! :D

Meshuggah and Converge both have new albums coming out. If you like it that heavy then give them a whirl. He may not be considered that metal anymore but I thought the last Devin Townsend album Rawked pretty hard as well...
