When I travel I am often carrying enough power adaptors to make my
suitcase look like a bombmakers workshop? PC power pack, handheld
charger, mobile charger, battery charger for digital camera , and
something else last time around - forget what! All varying output
voltage and ampage. Does anyone have an idea of where to get a single
variable output adaptor? Preferably that would not risk blowing any of
the said items!
Most times am travelling within Europe/Asia but some times to NAmerica.
Thanks

A universal adapter would need to have different plugs for the end
connecting to your devices. I take it wouldn't be easy to find this, but why
not look at Belkin?

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatPro [...] _Id=146239
110/240v input, output is a cigarette lighter format. You can have car
charger for each device, and they're smaller (in general) then the full
things.

For a truly multi device charger, look at Targus. they have a few devices
that have tips for laptops, PDA, mobile phone, MP3 players, etc. You can
also buy individual tips if needed:

Most of the devices can be charged with USB, Nokia phones and PPCs can
(may need USB2) - so why not get USB chargers and then you on;y have to
worry about charging your laptop

I just picked up an iGo Juice thingie (www.igo.com)
The only thing I haven't been able to get tips for it for has been my Nomad
mp3 player thus far.
Other than that shortcoming, it replaces all of my ac adaptors.

HTH,

Jeremy

*Some* devices out there might be able to take a charge via a USB2
adaptor but I doubt it's anything like a majority. In any case, the
best you could hope for is a trickle charge. Plus many people taking
cameras and PPCs with them may well not have a laptop.

I'd love to see someone make a good quality 'universal' charger
that supported multiple supply volatages and multiple adaptors to
power/charge various pieces of kit. The first company to produce a
high quality easy to use, compact unit will make a fortune.

Dell Axim X3i recharges fine at about 60% of normal rate from the USB
port. Just leave it plugged in while you do other stuff and it's up in
about 1.5h from 20%->95% (the last 5% always seems to take 50% of the
time LOL)

Ditto. My wife carries an IGO and loves it.

With respect to multiple power adapters, look at Targus and teleadapt. They
have a universal style prong adapter that has US, Oceania, Continental style
plugs built into one smallish cube.
