I have switched over from running SETI on my PC and looking for aliens to running UD and their Cancer Research project THINK. After about 1-2 weeks I feel UD is totally disorganized and I am running out of patients to run this program.

Example: If you restart your PC or it crashes, you lose the unit you were working on or at least the molecule you were working in the middle of crunching. Also, the statisitcs are useless. I have seen my numbers go up and down on a weekly basis, i.e., we lose results that were already logged or gained new ones from nowhere. The Work Units are also totally Randon, I have been working on one unit now for 3 days, it has crashed 3 times, but for the past 28 hours it has been running and I am only 52% finished with it. Sometimes, I can do a unit in about 10 hours. Also, the Points system is useless and finally the work units are not unified. Moreover, you must be connected to the Internet all of the time while the program is running, unlike SETI and also I wonder what Intel is doing with all of the information form over 500,000 users about which components are inside their PC? Can I assume that they discovered not only from their sales figures but from UD that more people than they had imagined are using AMD heaters in their PCs?

I guess you could say to me, hey, what are you doing this for? Competition or Cancer research. Well, it isn't just that, I take offense to the blatent Intel Ads all over the place in this Intel sponsored event, and I have heard that UD actually makes a lot of money with the work being done. I mean who will profit from the Cancer research? Is UD doing it on behalf of another company and reselling the computer time? If so, and much money is being made, why can't they get this program to work right? You would think with a professional company like Intel behind the damn software and stats would actually work. I think both UD and Intel are profiting from and hiding behind the magnaminous work of Cancer research to lure good hearted people to donate their PC time.

Won't be long before my PC is crunching SETI again. It's not Cancer research but at least it works and isn't so commecialized. If SETI@HOME does find intelligent life in outer space, they might be able to offer us a cure for cancer so I guess the Cancer research is covered under SETI, no?

&%&^$^%$#&^ My PC just crashed again and guess what, lost the whole unit I was working on and have to start over again. Hope it is a much smaller one than the one I was working on, or I may never complete a unit. UD really needs to carve up these units into smaller more managable sizes, espcially considering the fact that when you PC crashes you lose the unit and have to start over. Quite stupid.

I had better check out my PC to see what the problem is it crashes too often. Maybe it is the 67C temp of my 1Ghz AMD? I just recently installed a new HDD things should be stable. Seems like after I added another 128MB of RAM it is less stable. Hmm...will have to go on another forum and figure this thing out.

67C temp? That does sound high. I have a 700@850 at 1.85v and the temp under max load is 43c. You would think that 1.85v would make it run really hot but I have a Global Win and a tornado case. Ya this pc sounds like a jet engine but keeps it cool. I also use artic silver.

Also, list your specs of the pc. What are you running?
