I have MSI Radeon 9800 pro with 360 core (xt core). the card has 128mb
256-bit memory. It comes up as 9800 xt in windows... do i need to flash it
to make it a 'real' 9800xt or is the bios xt already... also if i do need to
flash a new bios, which one? tia

You can just clock it up to XT speeds and it will behave like one. I have
one as well and love it.

I've learned the hard way not to mess with those cards
until I have tried it in a bunch of apps that seem to give
me a good starting point. I use 3dMark2001 and Far
Cry. If I can produce a stable system in both of those
apps, I have a good system. Generally, with the ATI cards, I always have to
turn off fastwrites and set AGP
to 4x. In Far Cry, I autodetect, and then based on the
play, I either lower or raise the level of the components.
I've never seen a system that will run Far Cry set to
all "very high". The system will eventually crash after
10 minutes or so. 3dMark seems to test all the old
stuff. If you get through 3dMark, you have a good
basic system. As for flashing one style of card to another,
I really doubt that gives any improvement at all, esp
if the rest of your components cannot support it.

as far as i know MSI seems to favor Samsung memory on the newer cards ive
seen, nevermind they used "Hynix 2.8 ram chips are used on the MSI R9800Pro"
i found that on
http://www.overclockers.co.nz/ocnz [...] 800pro0205
anyway thats what it is, and they say it OC's well too
