Guys,

Wireless LAN isn't the same as Bluetooth is it? What is the difference?

Ash.

The difference is like between hot dogs and junk food in general.
Try Google - there's lot of funny stuff there :)

Bluetooth is an interesting standard. It can be used for networking, of
course, but you see it more used like a wireless USB (bad analogy, but we
will run with it). As such, you see tons of Bluetooth peripherals, like mice
and keyboards, and not as much connectivity. The signal strength is one of
the issues, as I understand it.

For wireless networking, you normally see A, B and G. B & G run on the same
type of signal, but have different characteristics (B generally has a
slightly better range, but G runs 5X faster). A runs on a different type of
signal and does not have the range of either B or G. For home, G is great as
you G card can be used on a B network elsewhere, albeit at a slower speed.

Hi.

BlueTooth is more like an Upgrade to the IR connection that might be use
between a Computer and peripheral (like Keyboard, Mouse, printer etc.), it
is not really a Network Hardware.

802.11 b or 802.11g etc. are specifically design for Networking.

Jack

wireless LAN is equivalent to ethernet and
bluetooth is likened to USB ports technology

Actually there are Bluetooth Lans and Bluetooth access points. My
column on Bluetooth will be posted shortly in the Expert Zone at

The industry tends to overload peripheral interfaces.
USB initially was targeted to HID devices, printers and RS232 - now they
hooked on it storage and LAN.
Same with BT - originally it was "cable replacement"...
