My two years are up. I've had good luck with Verizon (maybe it just
seems that way after the experience with AT&T). I love the LG4400.
Now I have to decide whether to convert to the new plan and phone.

Current plan allots 400 minutes w two lines/phones at $60/mo. The new
plan is 700 minutes w two lines/phones for $70/mo. The $10 seems
worthwhile. But...I've rec'd conflicting info from Verizon reps. I
trust that someone here is more informed about this:

One rep said 'no roaming.' Not sure what means, especially as the
family plan promo says 'free roaming.'

I wanted to keep the VX4400s as spares and reactivate them if we
don't like the VX4650's. A rep said they won't activate them on the
new plan because they don't support '911' (I suppose they were
referring to GPS?).

No analog. Does anyone ever need analog these days?

Any other reasons to avoid the new plan?

My VX4400 support GPS. I doubt if it is still in good condition when my
2yrs pass, that I will "upgrade". My data cables work. The batteries are
readily available if I even need a replacement.

And the new AC2 versus the old AC1 that you have has been discussed a
zillion times here. Some people gain with the no roaming AC2 while
others lose coverage completely. AC1 generally is considered to have
more coverage but may expose you to roaming charges. Read the past
postings. Decide for yourself.

They do support the 911 location.
I posted to this newsgroup how to get the GPS coordinates of a LG VX4400
displayed on the phones screen.

The FREE roaming is actually "Extended Network" as opposed to actual
"Roaming" which is exta cost.

If you find your phone shows "Roaming" very much you should compare the AC1
& AC2 coverage maps for those areas.
If your Phone seldom shows "Roaming" then Switching to AC2 should have
little effect.

I'll look for that. Yeah, the Verizon rep told me we needed new
phones cause they could not activate our current 4400s. Reason given:
no 911. Then she said we could keep the 4400s in case we lost the new
phones. Made no sense.

When I signed up the plans were different so I never knew about AC1 vs
AC2. After searching on those keys I understand more. I still don't
know what 'AC1' stands for (?). Also came up empty searching for
NA_MOU. I need to find a wireless dictionary.

I turned up the following, which seems to cover it:

> Under AC-I there were certain areas where roaming charges applied

So no roaming charges cause...no roaming at all in some cases. That
explains why one rep said 'no roaming' and the other said 'free.'

Two major reasons that I considered switching: Get an extra pair of
phones, and get more minutes. I'm running close to the 400 limit due
to some emergencies this month, so I thought this would be a good
time. Looks like I should research this more.

Another thing I'm curious about...I turned up a post that said data
downloads are free for AC1 but not for AC2. Any idea what that refers
to? I was considering using a link to the cell when I can't get a
reliable wifi link to the laptop. Any bearing re the new plan?
