I just got an E815.

The list of features on the Moto website talks about MP3s. The owner's
manual (on page 18) identifies a "Stereo Headset Jack".

Does this mean that I can load the phone (and/or the memory card) up with
MP3s and use it like a flash-based MP3 player?

I couldn't find anything in the owner's manual about this, and the headset
jack is not the regular "Stereo Headset" size, but is instead the smaller
size used for typical telephone handsfree headsets.

Any ideas?

And if the E815 does not allow this, what about the LG 8000?

Yes, you can pick up a transflash memory card from a major electronics
supplier and upoad mp3's on it and play them on the phone, through the
speaker or a wired headset. the bluetooth headsets dont support music
becuase they dont have the throughput to play such complex sounds, at
least the ones from motorola so far. I dont know why thats just how it
is. There are 128 - 512 transflash memory cards starting at around
$30-$40.

Cool. That is what I was hoping.

So how is it that the headphone jack will work either as a 2 channel
stereo "out" jack for two earpieces, or as a one in, one out jack for a
earpiece/microphone set? That's pretty cool. Is it auto-sensing,
depending on what you plug into it? Or will there be a software setting
lurking deep in a menu for me to choose the configuration from time to
time?

And do I need to buy special stereo headphones, or can I get an adaptor
to use my regular walkman headphones in the small-sized jack?

The Left and Right channels are seperate from the Mic channel
theoretically you could have a stereo headset for phone conversations
as well as mp3s as long as the headset supported a mic. But as you know
phone conversations are only a single channel so the phone would output
1 signal to both channels or just one signal to 1 channel. where as in
stereo mode it outputs 2 dynamically different channels. look at the
headset jack and you can see the different contacts seperated by a tiny
plastic ring thats how it seperates output from input. its a hardware
feature as opposed to a software feature. As to the question of the
adapter, i would bite the bullet and just get headphones that will fit
in the jack adding adapters will add bulk as well as cost and
unreliability, just make sure the headphones support stereo, check the
package or ask an assosiate, beacuse even though it may have two ear
buds it may not necessarily be a stereo headset.

Actually, there is a 128meg and a 256meg transflash card. There are reports
that there is a 512meg
card out there but no one has them. Some stores say they carry them but they
are all back ordered. SanDisk
is the maker but they have no mention of them. Sure would like to have one
myself if there is such a thing.

Thanks. I'll visit Best Buy and get a nice tiny set of 'phones with the
ultra-miniature plug.

Be careful, you may need a special set of headphones or adapter to get it to
work. I tried using a regular set of headphones with my V710 but was only
able to get sound out of one speaker. I ended up buying the Motorola stereo
head set.

You have to get something specially designed for it (like Motorola
sells). There are three bands and the tip (common, left, right, microphone).

OK. Thanks. That save me from buying the wrong thing.

LG gives you a "free" one with the phone. I was surprised that MOTO did
not.
