We try and contribute to this forum as a verizon fan. But yes, we also
sell. We have had a problem of "late" that people try and get our phones
for FREE as replacement phones, completely ignoring that they need to be
activated. Would you follow the link below to ebay; and see if I've gone
over the top.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.d [...] 5779804486

Post your feedback (call it quality assurance) as mail to me (without the
nospam) or reply to this posting. The link is an offer to sell
verizonwireless phones cheap with a new line of service. But I don't want
you to buy, but critique the ad. Unfortunately, I know you will be to the
point. Feedback on look n feel is requested. If you guys rant, it won't be
unexpected.

Also, since most, if not all of the people here already have phones, the
offer isn't available to you anyway. If I've been a fair contributor, than
you for offering to help. If you think this is spam, ignore it.

I think the term "replacement phones" is confusing. Especially if people want
to "replace" their (for example) Cingular service with Verizon service. In
that case these are appropriate "replacement phones". My suggestion is to
use the sentence "These phones are only available with new service" in each
location instead.

To be honest, I can't actually figure out what the bidder is paying for.
There are dollar prices listed all over the place. How would I compare
what I see on the ebay page vs Verizon's site? And as a special bonus
it gets muddled even further by the bidding price somehow being the price
after rebates, or maybe not, together with carrier activation fees, or
maybe not.

Lastly it seems like a perfect way to do identity theft. I am not saying
that is what you are doing, but rather if someone wanted to do that they
would list the same steps as you.

In summary there is absolutely no way I would even consider whatever it
is that the bidder actually pays for and I would advise people to stay
well away from it since they could be easily exploited.

Didn't they cancel you contract? Aren't you the one
with the class action suit with one State Attorney General
already on board?

I guess the "nospam" is to avoid unsolicited commercial
communiques like this one?

"Unfortunately"? "If you guys rant, it won't be unexpected"?
I guess I'm just one of the guys... way to offend those who
you are requesting a favor from.

It's spam. It's entirely for your commercial interest. Since
the offer isn't available to us anyway and this is all to
help you make money how about paying us for improving
your business venture? How about a free headset or
discount for each responder?

Thanks Roger,
- to your observations about that on-line page (not repeated here as I did
say this post was for QA, and only offered that link one-time)

- What is the bidder paying for? The bidder is paying for access to my
link; in the end they save $50-100 off of anybody else's prices. Ebay
requires a price for an auction. So, that's it. Our experience so far is
that 20 people bought off ebay; and of those 80% already had Verizon, and
thought they were getting a replacement phone.

- replacement phones? Good point, but we do say only with new service x
times. But okay.

- the bidder is paying for "access" to the plan; as there has to be a price
for anything on ebay. Also, when the person follows the link, they are
brought to a https site.

- Could someone steal their info? I'd say no more or less than any other
on-line offer. They are sent to a https site, and they input the
information. I just confirm that they need it to activate, but they don't
give that information to me. If you did an on-line activation with verizon,
you'd have to furnish that same information. It is the carriers
requirement, not mine. But you are right, buy without caution on-line, and
there could be a risk..

- Confusing? If you thought it was, then it might be.

- How would you compare, well that is easy. The prices on Verizon's web
page are the prices after rebate. There are lots of prices, but only one
price per phone. Lots of phones, lots of prices. Also, the prices on the
page referenced are also after rebates, just like Veizon's web page. I
think the prices across the board are $50-$100 less than verizon's web site,
and that is without factoring in the free cla that some give away for free,
and some charge $30 for.

Thanks for the feedback. And I appreciate the time you took to answer it. dr

Quick: if you'd like to email me, I showed you and everybody else how. I
expected someone to take this the hard way; thanks for not disappointing.
If you have nothing to say about the link, then you have nothing to say to
me.

If you can't figure out the email provided, sorry. Others did. And I
didn't say I had to like the feedback, but it is feedback none the less, and
your effort appreciated. Thank You, enjoy your day. dr

Instead of beating around the bush in several statements, just come out and
say what's going on. Business practices that lure potential customer's in
with deceitful wording is no business I'll ever deal with. Also, if you
can't figure out what they are...then you are a greedy, money mogul dick
head. Plain and simple. As you can post an advertisement, I can post my
opinion. Welcome....

Really? Usenet indicates that many customers are claiming to be deceived by
Comcast. Did you change jobs or are you too blinded by the Corporate ass
you are kissing to know that?

This violates MANY of eBay's policies.

What is stopping someone from then posting the link for all and sundry
to use? How can someone tell that you haven't done that to someone
else's link?

You say only with new service once, and non-replacement 3 times. It should
be the other way round. I think way more people will understand the new
service bit than what a replacement phone is or isn't.

That doesn't mean anything!

You should make that clear on the page. It goes on extensively about credit,
drivers licenses etc - the exact information that is valuable to get from
someone.

Also you have to pay tax in many states on the full retail price of the phone,
not the sale/subsidised price. Put something on the page telling people how
to compare with Verizon prices.

Wouldn't that just drive them to buy direct?

If you buy from the VZW Web site, they include sales tax as appropriate.
If a business has a physical presence in a state, they have to collect
sales tax on web/mail-order stuff. I think some federal court ruled on
this, so it applies to all states with sales tax.
