i am planning to get a second hand MSI Ti4200 64MB 4X which has this code on its chips - HY5DV641622AT-36. i believe that means its a 3.6ns memory chip. I wanted to know how high i could overclock the memory yto without any RAM sinks... on air-cooling.

I'd imagine no higher than 300MHz. The RAM is rated for 277.7[recurring]MHz, so 300 maybe pushing it. You will most likely get around 285 295 with decent aircooling.

Hey Vapor tnx for replying man. I did a little research myself and yes, what you said is true. And i cud reach 300MHz only with good RAM sinks. anyways, tnx again.

Mask try no-ramsinks first, because search rage3d, a lot of people gets worse result when using ramsinks. I don't know about that Hynix reaching 300mhz, Samsung'll do better. Because i've seen Samsung 4.0ns doing 283mhz.

No problem, if you want a general rule of thumb to figure out how fast RAM can go, just divide 1000 by the rating in nanoseconds (1000/3.6=277.7[recurring]). Then, depending on the brand, multiply the MHz you get by anything between 1.05 and 1.15 (depending on brand) to get approximate maximum MHz...just if you were wondering.

I have a Leadtek Ti4400, I can't get my memory over 300 at all, even with good cooling. 300/301 is completely unstable, yet 300/300 is perfectly stable (even with bad cooling). Haven't really tried to play with the core that much. What brand is the one you are getting?

Hey vapor.. i instead got a MSI OEM Ti4400 for a bargain... Clocked at GPU:284MHz and Memory: 550MHz, it was rock stable at 300/600... i am yet to test it at higher speeds... Mine's got Samsung 3.6ns BGA memory...

That's good, Samsung has been known for good overclockers, did it have any ramsinks?

No pal. no ram sinks yet... Funny thing is the card is kinda giving up on me... Corrupted Display when booting in to Windows and once its booted in Windows, i get no display at all!! |

Oh yeah, if it's a brand new card, then you gotta burn the memory for about 48 hours, before you overclock.

I have essentially the exact same card, except mine is Leadtek and came clocked at 270,552. I also have 3.6ns Samsung (not sure about BGA, in fact, I don't even know what BGA stands-for/is) memory...clocked at, whaddya-know, 300,600.

B something Grid Array. Any K7/P3/4 heatsink are better thatn most video card cooler.

May be i just burnt the RAM... anyways, BGA stands to Ball Grid Array and BGA RAM chips are different from the regular RAM chips in that the BGA chips are square in shape as opppsed to the rectangular shaped regular RAMs.

Cool, that means I have 3.6ns Samsung BGA memory too! Is it supposed to be better at OCing? Or is there nothing really special about it other than it is different?

Cool, when I get home I'll try to rig it onto my card (somehow)...5700U better make way (at least in DX8, I know my card can't do DX9).

Yep, BGA memory is supposed to OC better...
