Does anyone know of a phone/service where I can avoid calls from
certain numbers? I would like to set up my phonebook so that calls from
certain numbers would "ring" with no volume, or even better go directly
to voice mail.
Anyone heard of a phone/service that would do this?

The directly-to-voicemail I don't know how to do, but my LG 7000 on
Verizon will do exactly what you want, I believe. Each contact can
have a distinct ringtone setting, and one of the built-in rings is "No
Ringer" -- silence only (although it'll still make its visual lightshow
on the outside LED). Note that the setting applies to all phone
numbers under a particular contact.
