Hello
Does anyone know where I can find a manual for the compaq LTE Lite 4/25C. I
need to replace the internal battery and do not know how to disassemble.

Hello,

i have a manual but its a printed version and i don´t want to scan it
;-).
Well anyways, the dismantling of the LTE Lite
is not so easy for the beginner and tricky. You have to disassemble the
LTE Lite completely to change the CMOS battery. Find instructions here:

Attention: The display cable can get broken very easy during this

This is great... much thanks, my compaq has a modem but I don't know if it
works. I also need to replace the main battery, so your posted info is a
wonderful thing.

Hi Mc,

if you want to replace the main battery then you can take a look at
ebay (best solution, also for buying accessories for this model such as
the dockingstation or the QuickConnect Adapter (better then the big
dockingstation) etc.) or you can buy a brand new one from a supplier
(but the prices here are maybe 300% then your LTE Lite is worth today).

The Modem probably works. If you have luck then it is the 14.4 K
FaxModem ("SpeedPAQ"; the fastest internal Modem ever made for this
laptop). If not, then it is an older one such as the 2400 Modem...not
really useful for todays standards, but if you like Lynx or Fax then it
is ok.

If you have at least 8-12 MB RAM you can install Windows 95 on it. This
will help you to activate the internal Modem and other peripherals.

Thanks again, I'll look into the Quick connect to see if I can hook up a cd
rom. I'm not sure how I would install win 95 unless I can network somehow?

Hi,
well there are several options here. If you are going to open the
laptop you can take the harddisk and connect it with your desktop
computer (with a 2.5" - 3.5" adapter cable). Then you just copy the
setup files to it.

or:

you buy a paralell/printer port port cd rom on ebay

or:

you use a zip drive for the printer port

or:

you create a floppy disk version of windows 95 (instructions on the
net)

and so on. since u r opening the laptop i would suggest the first way.
its fast.

I have an LTE Lite 4/33 and bought a modem on e-bay (actually two 4/25
innard assemblies). I used one memory card to up my Ram to 12megs and
figured one of the two modems would work. They are Data Lab Inc.
CQI-1414 with 2 RJ-11(?-tel connectors). While the Bios recognizes
the modem, it is described as "off". How do I turn it "on" ?

those modems you mentioned are they external ones or internal ones,
third party modems for the LTE Lite Series? never heard bout
them...Anyways..if you insert an internal modem (such as the SpeedPAQ
Modem) into the unit then you should check the BIOS (Press F10 right
after the memory counting). Somewhere under Modem-Settings.

They are internal PCMCIA type 2 and fit in the card slot. Since both
sub-assemblies( just the guts of the LTE) had the same modem installed
it must be a unit which works with the LTE Lite. The BIOS lists

System Board Serial Device..........................Com1, IRQ4
Internal Modem/2nd Serial Device.................Com2, IRQ3
Modem State...............................................Off
Integrated Trackball.....................................Auto, IRQ15

F4 config brings up...... Internal Modem/2nd Serial Device
with "Com 2, IRQ3" hi-lited.

When it boots to DOS it lists:

C:>C:\Mouse\Mouse.exe
and installs the Logitech Mouse Driver Release 6.44
Then
"Reading MOUSEDRV.ini initialization file
Searching for mouse..........
COM4 serial device found
EGA/VGA connected
Mouse driver installed

C:\SET LMOUSE=C:\MOUSE "

I don't have a serial mouse to try on Com 1 so I
can't see if somehow the LMOUSE is hogging the IRQ
but since the BIOS seems to recognize the modem
before the LMouse is installed it seems unlikely.

Does your LTE BIOS also show Modem State.....off
when you boot up ? Is there some sort of modem driver
install in your autoexec or config.sys files ?
MSDOS has the generic Unimodem.inf file which mentions
APEX but I imagine that it is only for W95.

PCMCIA Modems in the card slot, do I understand you right? Oh Jesus!
(as you usa-americans say) ;-).
The LTE Lite has not PCMCIA slot and the card slot on the side is ONLY
for a DRAM Card. Even if it fits (strange that it does; maybe all is
broken now, hehe) it can never ever operate any PCMCIA device of any
kind. Haha, ok since we know its a PCMCIA card:
nothing will ever work, please forget it and buy the 144 SpeedPAQ
FaxModem (internal 14K Modem for the LTE Lite; fastest modem) or an
external 56K Modem for the COM Port.
