Can someone with a serious level of experience in the physics of RF please
explain to me why mobile phones are a cancer danger to people? Yeah, I have
seen the studies that claim the RF energy is absorbed by the head and may warm
the brain by .25 degrees. No one knows what it might do in the long term.

But why be concerned over a mobile phone when the average cordless phone in
your house is now 2.4GHz (some frequency as the magnatron in your microwave)
and outputs considerably more than 3mw (or .03 watts).

Same question to wireless networking running in the same band. Most people
wouldn't put a laptop next to their head for very long but with the advent of
VoIP over WiFi, there will be a gaggle of devices coming out soon that will
have you cheek-to-cheek.

What is it about mobile phones that has the scientific media so worked up?

Could it be there's money available as grants to support lengthy studies?

The frequency at which a device transmits is not proportional to it RF
output. For example, many AMPS only phones output at 3 watts, while
most digital phones are much less, probably closer 0.5 watts at their high.

Stupidity...pure stupidity.......
Look at it this way, if RF was visable, you wouldn't be able to see across
the street. Your microwave oven(usually 700-1,000 watts) leaks more RF than
a cellphone(typically 0.125 watts or 1/8 of one watt), produces.
Paging transmitters on local mountains and buildings spray in excess of 250
watts on 158Mhz and 460Mhz. Television transmitters make over 100,000 watts
of visual carrier from 55Mhz to 600Mhz. Most FM broadcast transmitters make
from 3,000 Watts to 100,000 Watts. Your average big town AM station makes
from 25,000 to 50,000 watts....the smaller ones from 1,000 to 5,000 Watts
daytime.
If your afraid of "RF" dress your kids in tinfoil and ground them securely

Saw a news blip last night that there is no ongoing research on this in US,
but some in Europe. Discussing such an issue will surely divide us very
quickly on a newsgroup. Only time will tell. Research takes a long time, and
we usually commit substantial dollars only when a medical trend hits us in
the bank account.
