Hello,
I have a LG3200 cell and verizon service.

Today I have recieved about 6 calls from "restricted", i.e., in my missed
calls list they are listed as "restricted". There is no call back number
listed and any attempt to hit send and call back on these missed calls to
find out what is going on delivers a message from the phone of: invalid
number.

Does anybody have any idea what is going on here? I have none and am
wondering if this is some type of worm attack or hack attempt or something.

I have no clue what this is all about.

I believe LG phones display "private" numbers (in other words, a blocked ID)
as "restricted". At least my 4400 and 6100 both do.

"Restricted" means that the caller's account was set not to identify the caller or phone number.

Thanks. I think someone has been calling my number by mistake. Sort of
annoying that there is no way to call them back and let them know about
it. I have missed answering it while it was ringing every time so far.

It could even be Verizon calling you about your account. Verizon blocks
caller ID when they call you.

Most likely it is a telemarketer. Everytime I've answered "restricted"
calls it has been something like that.

Most likely it is a telemarketer, OR someone who has caller-id blocked. When I
call from my home phone which has auto CLID block, it shows "restricted" on
cellular phones and usually something like "private" on landline caller ID
boxes unless I unblock my number by using the *82 predial code.

Try it yourself. *67 blocks caller ID for your next call, *82 unblocks caller
ID for your next call, and both work from any landline or US cell phone - try
from both.

Landline carriers and, I imagine, most cellular carriers allow you to block
caller ID by default. Cell carriers even let you do it at no additional charge.

As others posted, most likely a telemarketer. By default I don't
answer any of these... if it's someone who knows me and just happens
to be calling from a caller-ID blocked phone they'll leave a message.

Not saying there aren't some out there who don't do this, but haven't
telemarketers been required to send CID info with their calls?

Last Saturday, I got a call from Restricted, but since it was a weekend and
airtime was free, I answered it. It turned out to be some company's (I
can't remember who right now) customer service telling me something
worthwhile, so I was glad I answered it.

I also have a friend who has a device installed in his house that
automatically dials the CID block code every time he picks up a phone.

Most calls from a company using T1 lines do not send Caller ID.

I disagree with "most". IME, "most" send a single number, usually the
main switchboard number. IME, NONE send the restriced, but many give
the "not available".

I get these most often from individuals who wish to protect their
privacy. I understand that battered women's shelters and that sort of
place often use it as well.

I disagree I had the same caller ristricted call 4x at 2 am at 3am at 8am and @7pm within a 24 hr period???? Darla
