Newsgroups on EVDO Internet Access

Hi,

I shall be glad if someone can inform me if I can use the Verizon EVDO
Wireless Internet service for newsgroups.

What are the settings for Outlook Express 6? And what username or password
do I use?

Why not bypass OUTLOOK EXPRESS all together and read your newsgroups a
new way? Check out Groups Beta 2 at Google. They own the franchise to
the archive of all of USENET now.

You can do some really interesting things with GG2. First you can
'subscribe' any USENET group and have each message sent to you as an
email. OR you can have a DIGEST of new messages sent to you. You can
read messages while online using a web browser with interesting display
features. Google Groups 2 will thread the messages using different
colors to indicate different posters and levels of the thread.

It doesn't stop there. If you are using RSS or ATOM news aggregators
to grab news feeds from web sites you can also use that with GG2. Just
visit the ABOUT THIS GROUP LINK and look under ATOM FEEDS. There you
will find four choices

100 New topics
15 New topics
100 New messages
15 New messages

Click on the XML link you desire for your feed aggregator.

But wait it gets even better than that if you have switched to FIREFOX
for browsing the web! Download an extension called ADD LIVE BOOKMARK.
That allows you to right click on any XML feed link and save it as a
LIVE BOOKMARK. I keep a LIVE BOOKMARK toolbar open at the top of my
browser so I can cursor over to a folder and have a drop down view of
all new messages to my favorite groups. I can click on any of interest
and instantly see the message thread with my broadband connection. I
also use this feature to view all sorts of public news feeds from
Yahoo, Reuters, BBC, Drudge, Science.com, Slashdot.com, and many
others. Live bookmarks are updated behind the scenes so they are always
current with the latest data, you don't have to do anything.

There is much more at Google that you can use while surfing the net
from your cell phone. I use many tricks associated with Google Mail to
read my current and reference even old email while mobile. GMAIL stores
months [or years] of you email after you read it online in its FREE one
gigabyte account storage area. At home I normally have GMAIL send all
messages directly to OUTLOOK on my PC using POP. It keeps a copy in my
account until I choose to delete it, but with one gig storage, why
bother? It is very valuable for later reference using Gmail built in
search feature. When mobile I read all new messages using my laptops
web browser while connected to Verizon using my cellphone. Later those
same messages are downloaded to OUTLOOK on my PC unless I permanently
delete them.

But it gets even better with Gmail. Since it has so much online storage
I can send files up to 10 MB in size as email messages and have them
always online any where in the world for instant download. These can be
pictures or MP3's or what ever. I use the Gmail one GB online storage
for files in addition to normal email. There is even a FREEWARE 'file
explorer' application on the web site http://www.majorgeeks.com/ that
syncs to GMAIL for storing your files so you don't even have to send
them as individual emails from your PC. Majorgeeks.com even has a
FREEWARE windows pop up application to notify you of new Gmail but I
like the Gmail ALERT built into FIREFOX using an optional FIREFOX
extension even more.

BTW if you haven't been invited by anyone to try a Gmail email me off
list using the following address vic.healey @Gmail.com.

I need your first and last name and a current email address to send
your invite code to. This is a Google requirement - not mine.
Please put 'Gmail invite needed' in the subject line or I will not even
read your email. If you email me at any other address other than Goggle
I will ignore your post.

I have about forty new Gmail invites left to issue in the current
batch. Even if you don't need a Gmail account it makes sense to grab
one now before they become public so no one can grab your name and use
it for their address.
It also makes sense if you need more than one gig of worldwide storage
to open more than one Gmail account. ;> )

BTW you can also set up your Gmail inbox as an ATOM feed or live
bookmark!
If you only do half the thigns I have mentioned above you are on the
way to becoming a geek yourself!

Even if you don't need a Gmail account but you found these tips
useful drop me a note offline at the above Gmail address just to say
hello and add your comments. Any standard USENET replies to this
message are filtered through my anti SPAM account at Cashette.com which

Hi,

Thanks for the responses. I shall be looking up the suggestions soon!

I apologize for reposting this message - my news-server, Teranews,
oftentimes keep timing out and not letting my posts go through! That was why
I wanted to know what settings to use for news.verizon.net, actually.
