[Solved] Any high gpu-load games in 2012?
Forum Games General : PC Gaming [Solved] Any high gpu-load games in 2012?
Hi all.
Before I get an awesome video card, I wanted to ask if there will be ANY game that can bring a modern video card to it's knees? Something using a Unreal 3.5 "good samaritan" engine for example?
Or is Crysis2 DX11 about as good as it gets for the seeable future ?
The next-gen consoles specs look modest, so I'm not expecting much in PC ports.
And what about physics (too many problems to describe)? Will this ever be fixed while using a high gpu/low cpu load?
Any rumors?
thanks!

There are already games out there that can really kill your video card, no matter how good it might be: Metro 2033, FSX, Shogun 2, ARMA 2, Crysis, Crysis 2 with DX11, The Witcher 2.
As for the "next-gen" consoles, that's not even worth mentioning.
Thanks for the post. (wasn't talking about my current 4870)
But I was sure a 7970 easily handle Metro, Crysis 2 DX11, etc ??
I also have a Yorkfield which is good enough/OK, but that will get updated to Ivy Bridge i7 in a few months.
I also have a 1080p monitor, so I don't think I need CF/SLI for current games..
From the post, it seems there will be NO games that require a 7970 CF or 680 (kepler) SLI in 2012.. "Metro 2033, FSX, Shogun 2, ARMA 2, Crysis, Crysis 2 with DX11" will still be the "top dogs" throughout this year

have a look here to see what a 7970 can do on metro 2033--dx9 and dx11

OK.
I see your point. Metro on a 7970 on very high setting & DOF @ 1080p gets 9 min fps.
It seems then there will not be hardware this year that can handle a "good samaritan" type gaming engine. (a guess since I didn't seen benchmarks on that tech demo)

Unfortunately, it looks like the 7970 will not be what people might think it will be, cause those graphs aren't impressive at all. It looks like whatever comes out of the AMD powerhouse lately isn't exactly "the next best thing."
I don't think there is any AMD vs. nVidia going on here. But the Metro DOF is confusing. It wasn't so slow in Crysis 1 and didn't look so bad either.

You're right, I am far from any "fanboism" on either manufacturer's side; I've used both Nvidia and ATI cards, but it seems lately AMD cannot exactly find their way, and I am talking of their latest FX CPU, which isn't exactly a flop, but it's not what they boasted it would be; now the new line of those cards which seems to me more marketing than real value. I'd rather buy a 6970, hopefully with prices getting a bit lower now, than that new shiny 7970.
