Start->settings->control panel->network connections.

For each network connection listed:
Right click and select properties.
Highlight the Client for Netware entry
Click Uninstall.

Once complete, go into the User control panel applet and you should be able
to set the Welcome screen and fast user switch options.

More Information

Since the Client for netware services disables the welcome screen and fast user switching; you must uninstall netware first to enable the Welcome screen. Fast user switching has nothing to do with the appear of windows when you startup/shutdown or logon/logoff.
I do not know of a way to enable the welcome screen if you are using the client for netware services. Since all logon screens use the welcome screen. :fou:

If you have a custom logon screen then this will also be disabled.

To uninstall Client for netware or any network client in windows xp:

open "My Network Places" icon

(if you do not have "My Network Places" icon on desktop---
Go to Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet Connections>Network Connections)

Next right click on any network connection (connected or not it doesn't matter) choose Properties>General Tab; select the client you wish to uninstall by clicking on it and click 'uninstall' -- Windows will prompt you to restart your computer -- choose No, restart later.

Go back to Control Panel; click UserAccounts

Under 'Pick a Task':

select-- 'Choose the way Users Log on or off'

A prompt appears saying you must disable offline files; which stores program settings and temporary files for network resources.

--click yes and proceed -- In the Offline Files Dialog Box, Uncheck Enable offline files, click OK.

Proceed to 'Choose the way users log on or off'

Select 'Use the Welcome Screen' and 'Use fast user switching' (if you want fast user switching)

Restart your computer-- the default Windows XP Welcome Screen and Logon Screen should be displayed.
(If you have any custom logon screens they will also display properly)
