More Information

I'm looking for software that will allow me to use one monitor, keyboard, and mouse for two computers. I know there are switch boxes out there, but I've heard they have software to do the same thing. These computers are networked if that makes a difference. I'd appreciate any suggestions/advice. Thanks for your time.

Hmm, take mouse and keyboard input from computer 1, redirect that input over a network to computer 2. Take the video output from that machine, send it back to computer 1 to be rendered on its monitor.

Nope, don't think so.

Err... I don't think a computer would boot up at all without a monitor, and a keyboard. But that would not be a problem though. You can use a program called VNC (Virtual Network Computing) that would allow you to view the screen of the other computer via a network, pretty much like Microsoft Netmeeting's remote desktop sharing, but better. I use it myself, and the way I do it is to have the 'client' computer to have cheapo keyboards and mouse (just to complete the circuit to make it boot) and share the monitor for 2 computers. When Windows is loaded, I can use the monitor for the computer you are using to control . Then with the NVC I can connect to the client computer and then control it remotely. You can even connect it through Internet, provided that you have sufficient bandwidth.

More importantly, the software is free!

This site is cool.

There is also pc anywhere. But those programs take a little bit longer to do what you want to do compared to using a cpu switch. I like the belkin cpu switches myself.

Isn't PC Anywhere for mobile users to access the computer with permanent Internet connection?

You could also use it over a lan in this type of situation. It may not be the best solution, but it would work.
