Was wondering if the mobile office kit will work with my apple
powerbook and lg 6100 to allow me to get online when I am away from home
and travelling. is it compatible with the mac and how is the time billed?

Thanks for the heads up and taking the time to reply. Can you let me
know how it works on your pc? Have access to a pc I could take on my
travels.

Thanks

Are you using OS X? The built-in calendar, address book and iSync work
nicely with the supported phones. Go to the Apple support page for the
details. If you need to connect to the Internet, do some Googling for
drivers for the phone. I'm not a fan of OS X, but I have to admit that these
built-in applications are very, very good.

I've been using mobile office for the past two years, and just got a new
kit to go with my upgraded phone. Works nicely, and there is no billing
aside from your cell minutes. Be sure and call *611 to activate
National Access (requires a digital calling plan). This allows you to
connect at near-DSL speeds, and doesn't cost any extra. However, my
understanding is that if you do NOT call *611 to activate, there IS an
additional charge.

I have a VX4400, not a 6100, but I think the answers for net connections
are the same.

You don't need software from VZW at all, just the right cable. I use my
vx4400 to connect my PDA to the Internet to check mail, and there is no
special software installed (or available) for PalmOS.

But I have a serial cable for my PDA. If your cable provides only a USB
connection, you'd probably need a USB driver, and I don't know if such a
thing exists for the Mac.

I tried to get my USB mobile office cable to act as a serial cable for a
co-workers PC, and didn't succeed, but perhaps I just didn't try hard
enough.

You might be able to find a serial-to-USB adapter. I suppose such
things exist, but I've never seen one (not the same thing as a
USB-to-serial cable - those are easy to find).

I never called and have never had any additional charges other than MOU
during peak hours.
