Hi,

I'm looking for a backup solution for a small server we run which has Red Hat 9 installed. It is running kernel 2.4 and we are probably going to use a REV drive as a hardware solution but want to know a user friendly software solution. Would consider other hardware solutions tho as well. There are also 4 Windows boxes attached to the linux server which it would be nice (but not 100% necessary) to backup with the same software and hardware. Any assiatnce would be great!! :)

Do you want a free or a commercial solution? Veritas Backup Exec is sort of the industry standard when it comes to backup software and supports linux and windows and a lot of other operating systems. Amanda is a good open source solution, but I don't know how it runs on windows.

Looking for a commercial solution. Had a look at the Backup Exec and it looks like it would fit the bill, howvere it requires a Windows server box to run, and our server is running Linux

Take a look at Tapeware. It's commercial, and runs on Linux and Windows. Not quite as nice as Veretas, but it does the job. Been using it on the linux server for over a year now with no issues.
