Well, after reading all the posts on the V710 here, I still decided
to go get one. Here are my 1st impressions of this phone compared to my old
T720.

Keep in mind that I have had mostly Motorola phones since day one. So I am
familiar with some of the idiosyncrasies of the brand.

The screens, both in and out side are totally readable in daylight. Most of
the time my 720 was impossible to read outside. Not so with the 710. The
colors are also more vivid and true. The screen being larger makes
everything easier to read and the night lighting of the screens and keys is
great.

The speakerphone function works fine and is clear and voice understandable
at both my end and the receivers end.

While the voice dialing will take some getting used to, it works better
than my 720 as I so far haven't gotten any wrong dialing commands like the
old 720 was apt to do.

I know that the Bluetooth functions are crippled and that was not a
consideration for me as I already have a speaker phone car adapter and a
mobile office cable, so even after the fix coming in November, to me it is
a non sequitur. I agree however that it was a bad decision on Verizon's
part to cripple it.

The camera in MY phone is straight and takes reasonable quality pics. If I
want something better I'll use my Nikon Coolpix. It is NOT however as bad
as others have mentioned, so maybe it was a bad batch of phones.... Mine
takes good quality, straight pictures.

As far as sound and reception it is better than my 720, no dropped calls so
far, better signal strength sitting side by side and the voice quality,
when you have your ear correrctly placed is far superior to my 720. Callers
say my voice sounds more natural too, although my 720 made my voice sound
good too.

THe ringer volume and voice volume is FAR improved. My old 720 was soft in
the ringer and I would occasionally miss calls, not so with the 710. When
it rings I hear it fine, plenty loud.

Time will tell, but so far I am quite happy with it.

That's most likely because the "sweet spot" for the speaker is near the
top of the clamshell instead of in the center. Try holding the phone a
bit lower on your ear than you're used to doing.

Well, I don't know what you last phone was, but this 710 beats my 720 hands
down in call volume. The trick with Motorola phones is placing it correctly
to your ear as the speaker hole is small and easy to miss. Failing that I
wonder if your phone is defective.....

You do know that Bluetooth works for headsets right? I use a Jabra
and it is fine. When I have the BT headest on, I can push the button
on the set and say "NAME DIAL" then the name and it connects great. A
wonderful feature!

This seems to be an accepted problem with Motorola since the 720. A user
shouldn't have to find the "sweet spot". I've used the Samsung A530 for a
year and a half and there was no need to find the sweet spot. The phone
just delivered a nice strong volume. But Moto's V60, T720, T730 and now the
V710, find the sweet spot. Its a damn shame they stopped making the Startac
7868. I think that was one of the best phones ever made. No, it didn't
have any bells and whistles, it just delivered a good sound.
