I am looking into doing something different with my computer, i sort of just want to play around with p4 and would like to know everyones thoughts. Right now i have an Asus A7N8X w/ 2700+ and 512mb Corsair PC3000 RAM. I am wondering what i could upgrade to if i decided to go pentium 4.

Those would not be an upgrade. Your upgrade path only lies in a P4 3.06, but that would be the biggest waste of money I've ever seen.

I agree!! Of course you could always send the money to dhlucke or me, and we will definitely find something to do with it.

so i would get no increase in performance unless i went with the 3.06, but yeah in some ways i just want to burn some money, but guess i will just wait for the new ati vid card 9900 when it comes out, from the things i have read it might be out as early as april.

If it was me, I'd buy a monitor instead. Do you have a 24" monitor yet? If you REALLY want to burn money on a PC, why not buy a cool case and mod it? Better speakers?

I actually just picked me up an NEC 19" Pure Flat monitor, probably not the best monitor in the world, but is really good, also i just got some Logitech Z-680's from newegg.com 2 days ago. Maybe i should buy one of those apple cinema monitors........haha

Speaking of Apple Cinema Monitors....I saw one in CompUSA yesterday. OMFG that thing is sweet looking. Can it be used with a PC? Prolly a dumb question. I also wonder if it's good neough for use with games.

Bah, I have no respect for the apple cinema screens. Their specs aren;t too good. Yes u can run em on pc, but u need a converter b/c the macs use a proprietary infterface w/ dvi and usb and power all in one. Converter can lead to degraded image quality tho. Lg.Philips is comin out w/ a 21" LCD w/ 176º viewing angle and 16ms response time- nice and fast. Perhaps that may interest you. IMHO, save your money and do a huge ass upgrade (that's what I do, sometimes spend 5K+ on the comp- ma 200Mhz system a long time ago cost me a good $8000).

If you really have that much money to spend, why don't you just build another P4 system and compare with your "old" system?
