Viewfinder, Focusing, And Optics

The 350 falls into the category of models that offer both an optical viewfinder and a large display screen. Naturally the LCD screen is what you'll use most of the time, but the viewfinder can come in handy. The available shooting information is detailed, and you can also display a histogram.

The focusing functions are likewise complete, with automatic detection or manual choice of focusing point. Manual focusing includes an electronic magnifier that makes it really usable. It would be hard to ask for more, and we found operation to be fairly fast and sure.

The zoom is quite standard and offers no big surprises. Olympus provides two macro modes, including "Super Macro" that lets you focus as close as 0.8" (2 cm). We admit that we'd have preferred a single mode here that would let you do it all.

The dual macro system performs well, but we'd have preferred something simpler and more accessible.
