5. The Security Concept Of The 800 Series: Smart Card Plus Software

The multi-stage security concept of the 800 series consists of the integrated smart card reader, a smart card and the three software components: PlatinumPAS, PlatinumSecure and PlatinumKey.

The PlatinumPAS software component implements the first security measure on the BIOS level and during the routine checking of the BIOS, when the notebook is either booted up or restarted. If the computer fails to find a correspondingly authorized smart card in the slot, it will halt the start-up procedure, thus preventing illegal access to the system.

PlatinumSecure allows users to administer smart cards and passwords.

This GUI allows the user or administrator to set the security levels.

PlatinumSecure ensures a secure registration process on the operating system level. To do this, the smart card is used to perform a user authentication process with encryption/decryption functions.

PlatinumKey permits automatic registration almost at the click of the mouse on frequently visited websites, which require the user to enter a password. For this purpose, the user's registration data for such websites are stored on the card.
