5. The Video Function Meets Expectations

The quality of the new iPods’ screens are excellent, while each one has its unique advantages. With a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels and a screen (diagonal) size of 3.5", the Touch allows for comfortable viewing. The Nano has a 2" screen with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. Then again, the Nano is more defined with its 204 pixels per inch compared to 163 pixels for the Touch. Deciding which is the most appropriate for your needs comes down to what you plan to use the video player function for. The Nano was designed for watching short videos while the iPod Touch is better suited for watching long movies.

Are The New iPods Worth The Money?

The Apple iPod Nano

The sleek new Nano design has its ups and downs. It can fit perfectly in your hand and offers a new video playback feature. It also boasts the brand new Cover Flow interface, but with this comes the delays we observed earlier, which is why people should think twice about running out and buying one right away.

The Pros:

Video playback

Improved ergonomics and a better interface

Small and compact design

The Cons:

Unfortunately, the design is too small

Poor headphone quality

The Apple iPod Touch

It’s impossible not to find this model appealing, even when you consider that some important features, such as its ability to read DivX files, are missing. This is quickly forgotten when considering its touch-sensitive and magnificent, user-friendly design.

The Pros

An interface with an incredible design.

The integration of Wi-Fi

The Cons

No DivX playback

Sensitive to finger smudges

Using an external headphone with the nano makes a large difference. I use a Ray Samuels Hornet with a set of Grados and you can easily tell the difference between a Apple lossless and 256K AAC or 128K AAC files.

Well , I bought the iPod Touch about 6 weeks ago and I love it !
***************************************************************

1: Works flawlessly with my Linksys G router
2: Its "on Hand" when I need a map, etc when watching documentaries
3: Gmail and a Wi-Fi restaurant enable brief travel notes back home without having to use our "Canada" phone at around $2 a minute in the America.
4: Its fun.
5: Typing in - the Google box -- is a bit tough. Otherwise a spell check helps speed text through memo boxes
6: Sennheiser PX-200's (non returnable gift) sound is quite good + with EQ set at R&B (fixes SPL 200hz -2000hz slump)
7: Excellent photo shows
8: Opens the world of Podcasts = Jean Shepherd, Agata Christie mysteries, photography.
9: 8 Gig has enough on-the-go room for "days" of listening.
10: Size is perfect ... I am not sure why the "metal" is not Kevlar, etc to further reduce weight

I could go on. Suffice now to say that this device is just a wonder to use and behold. Another reminder that " we in the West" are so very, very, privledged.
