12. Synchronization With Outlook Using PocketMirror

Many Windows users work with Outlook Express or the full version of Outlook that is part of the Microsoft Office Suite. The installation CD contains the powerful utility called 'PocketMirror Conduit Manager'. At first glance you hardly notice it because you only see it as a small greenish icon on the Outlook task bar (upper right).

This demonstrates the capabilities of the tool. The sections of Outlook and Palm OS can be synchronized via the serial interface (COM1 or COM2) accordingly.

'Synchronize' is the preset default and should not be changed.
The following example explains it:
On Monday you add the contact 'Frank Miller' with email address and telephone number in Outlook. On Tuesday you are on the road with your Palm and meet 'John Anderson'. Initially you enter the data of the latter in your Palm. At the next synchronization with Hotsync and PocketMirror 'Frank Miller' is copied from your PC to your Palm, and 'John Anderson' from the Palm to Outlook on the PC. Now both devices now contain the two new addresses. The same happens with the other categories like calendar, tasks and notes.
In the Properties menu you can also change the settings 'Outlook overwrites Handheld' or 'Handheld overwrites Outlook'. This means that modifications are lost on one of the devices, however. You should only use this feature if you really want it.
