Performance Summary
15. Performance Summary
From the graphs you can see that this is a good overall system for gaming, as well as for office productivity. Far Cry and Doom 3 are playable at 1024x768, and HL2 at 1024x768 with Antialiasing set to 4 times and Anisotropic Filtering set to 8 times. Older games - like Unreal Tournament 2004, and titles based on that engine - are easily playable at almost every level of resolution and image quality.
Conclusion
The Ferrari is an awesome little machine and I mean little. It weighs in at a little over 7 pounds, but packs some good performance. Battery life should be adequate to run office applications for a few hours on a business trip or at school. The ATI Mobility Radeon X700 and AMD Turion CPU should be a winning combination of speed and mobile power savings.
One thing we would have liked to have seen was a faster hard drive. Although the large storage capacity is great, we would like to see the system running a 7,200 RPM hard drive. It would have added an extra $100 to the system cost, but seeing that this is a Ferrari, speed is key - Acer should have revved up those RPMs!
Aside from that one imperfection, the Ferrari 4000 is a good replacement for a desktop but in a thin and light package. The finish and style will satisfy any car buff, or someone looking for an esthetically pleasing system. Whether on the road or off, this notebook will make you look sharp in any environment.
