1. A New Paradigm In Mobile Computing

Acer's TravelMate 2304LCi notebook computer is an attractive, well designed, inexpensive system. It has enough power to run office programs and simple graphics applications without much huffing and puffing. In some ways, it is the Toyota Corolla of notebook computers: perfect for modest everyday tasks, but not weekend racing. If you are looking for a computer that can sit smartly on a desk or kitchen table and go on the road occasionally, you should consider the TravelMate2304LCi.

The 2304LCi is one of a new breed that is leading the way into a fresh paradigm in mobile computing. The race is on at home and in the office to replace large and heavy boat anchor PCs and their monitors with notebook computers.

Notebooks are the larger mobile computers with big screens and wider, deeper, easier to use keyboards. They are too big to fit on most people's laps, so it does not make sense to call them "laptops." Only the brave or perhaps the insane would consider taking out and using most notebook computers on an airplane, even in a first class seat. However, in its element, a notebook is a fish very much in the water. All it needs is a flat surface to rest on and an electrical socket to plug into. And if that flat surface is needed for other things or the notebook is needed elsewhere, the computer can be quickly folded up and moved - very much unlike a conventional desktop.
