Mio Technology Aims To Ship Eight Million GPS PNDs In 2008

Mio Technology, a subsidiary of Taiwan-based Mitac International, expects to ship eight million GPS portable navigation devices (PNDs) in 2008, according to company president Samuel Wang at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) taking place in Las Vegas from January 7-10. Demand for GPS PNDs is increasing the fastest in North America, with demand rising from three million units in 2006 to an estimated 10 million in 2007 and further to a forecasted 17 million in 2008, noted Wang, adding that Mio Technology aims to sell two million GPS PNDs for a market share of 12% in North America this year.
