Las Vegas (NV) - Litepanels is known in the movie and news industry for making big LED lights for big camcorders, but the company is now introducing a light for the regular Joe. The new Litepanels Micro contains dozens of white, color-corrected, LEDs and can fits on in the shoe of most cameras and small handicams. Company reps gave us a quick product demo at their PMA 08 booth in Las Vegas.

The Litepanel Micro can fit on most small camcorders and cameras

The Litepanels Micro measures 3.3 inches square and is 1.5 inches deep. A dim switch on the top of the unit can dial the light from 0% to 100% and the color temperature stays at 5600 degrees (daylight) throughout the power change.

4 AA batteries power the light

Unlike other lights which use proprietary power packs, the Micro takes four AA batteries in the back. The rep told us that regular alkaline batteries will give about 1.5 hours of run time.

Litepanels has been selling a larger model to professionals for years.

Litepanels has been making a larger LED light (MiniPlus) for years and the trusting rep lent us the $1200 light for the rest of the day. Our videographer, Max Wilson, gives his thumbs up to the product and says he didn’t have to waste time recalibrating the color temperature settings on his camera, "just set it to 5600 and forget about it," he said. Wilson adds that it was extremely tough giving the unit back at the end of the day.

Talk about brilliant marketing, simply lend your product to video crews and let them get attached to the lights. Sorta like how pet stores lend puppies for a "free trial" - you just know the customer is going to buy the product.

The Litepanels Micro is currently shipping for $300
