GTA 3 Coming to Android, iOS "This Fall"
Rockstar is bringing its classic Grand Theft Auto III game to specific iOS and Android devices, possibly next week.
Thursday Rockstar Games said that Grand Theft Auto III will be heading to select Android and iOS devices sometime "this fall." However, there's a good chance the game will be released on October 22, as that's the date the original Grand Theft Auto III game landed on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Windows PC and Mac OS back in 2001.
"10 years ago, this month, the revolutionary open-world epic Grand Theft Auto III was released to the world – a game that set players loose as a small-time criminal at the bottom of the food chain in Liberty City, a sprawling metropolis where anything can happen – and probably will," the studio said Thursday.
For now the game is slated to land on eleven devices: the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S for Apple's iOS, the Droid X2, HTC Evo 2, LG Optimus X2, Motorola Atrix and Samsung Galaxy S2 for Android smartphones front, and the Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad, Motorola Zoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for Android tablets.
Rockstar also said that beginning Thursday, a limited-edition action figure of lead character Claude, created by collectible manufacturer Sideshow, will be available for pre-order in limited quantities at the Rockstar Warehouse. This figure costs $149.99, but Social Club members have an opportunity to get one for free. Head here and fill out the entry form by this Sunday October 16th for a chance to be one of three lucky winners.

10 years late, sound about right
While I won't doubt that current hardware can play this game on a Android or iOS
I do wonder how the controls will work out to a acceptable level.
Pretty sick that phones have actually matched and are surpassing PS2 era graphics.

That's definitely going to be an issue. There's no point in getting the game if you won't be able to control it properly.
Ps3 controllers are Bluetooth, maybe they can make it so you can use one of those.
Good, no more Gameloft crap
I'm sure Rockstar has thought this all out and have a solid control scheme in place. I can't see them releasing GTA3 and Max Payne on mobile without having worked out a good control setup
Before anyone says "Y NO SUPPORT XPERIA PLAY (PLAYSTATION PHONE)?!!!!"
With a low end single core snapdragon SoC and adreno 205 gpu ,that phone lacks the processing power to run a game like this.
Sorry, had to say that, been reading alot of comments like the above on different sites.
Now, remember sony saying dual core doesn't matter? lol
I'm glad R* is adopting for dual core phones, instead of dumbing down their games for low end phones *cough* EA, Gameloft *cough*

Totally agree with you on that. Xperia Play couldn't handle these games with the hardware it's packing. It was always my major beef with that device. The concept of a mobile device dedicated to mobile gaming that doesn't pack some high-end hardware boggles my mind.
Would prefer GTA 2.
"Elvis has left the Building!"
I want Duke Nukem on my phone if we are palying the 10 years late game.
hope it's better port than the pc version

Duke Nukem 3D is coming to Android
That game is 10 years old? Man I feel old now.
It makes me sad i can't play this on my Sony Ericsson, but I still won't give it up because i love my snes emulator!!!
This will be awesome on the Android Tablet since you can use the PS3 controller or any of the Wii controllers via Bluetooth. Too bad you wont be able to use a controller or play it on the iPad 2 or iPhone 4S since it only has 512mb of ram. It will most likely be a downgrade for iOS.

I always like to joke that my iPhone contains more power than the entire room of mainframes that were in the Matthew Broderick film "Wargame".
so when can we play CS with the old time comrade on the phone ?
The game is 10 years old, at that time I was sporting a P3 750mhz and 384mb ram. Current 1ghz phones should be able to run this game, especially the Play, but I think this is more of an Nvidia ploy to only release the game on Tegra 2 devices. I think it will be released on more android (and probably even iphone 4) later on.
Why is the HTC Sensation not on that list?
no ipod touch 4 support

i have played 2 an vice city recently, well... within the last year.
the controls are crap, and if it wasnt for the open world, these games would have tanked
i cant see much reason to want to play them, especially without a controller...

they released 3 and vice before they actually implemented decent conrtoles in san andreaus. this i can only see as a cash in.
They need to make it for the iPod Touch 4th generation too!
No A5 (dual core) for iPod touches this year. And they have the balls to market it as a "gaming" device. Hmph.
Cand of nostalgic news. But the best game now iis probably "9mm" which is lika a combinaton of Max Payne and GTA. The graphics is better is, I would say, at a level a Max Payne 2.
maybe in 2017... phones running crysis? 0.0
Never was interested in GTA3. Bring San Andreas!
So i cant get this on my iPhone 4 ? Wtffff
LilSmileyB: Unfortunately only dual core processors are supported... buy iPhone 4S if you want GTA.
I'm looking forward to give it a go in my SGS with Chainfire 3D. Galaxy On Fire 2 and Backstab HD run smooth as silk, and the original GTA 3 wasn't that demanding either. Just have a look at the PS2 specs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayS [...] ifications
All this dual-core cpu talk sounds more like some sort of marketing crap to me.
