Graduation often means it’s time to set up shop in a new apartment. Running water? Check. Electricity? Check. Cable television service? Umm. If paying for cable TV service is not in your grad’s plans, there are many other ways to watch video on an HDTV. Set-top boxes like Google TV, Western Digital’s boxes, or Roku are one option. But those boxes don’t port all video from the Internet to the television. The VStream is a simple way to ensure that any video playing on a PC can be streamed to the nearest HDTV: Netflix, Hulu, Youtube….anything—it just duplicates the PC’s screen wirelessly. It uses a wireless USB connection, and converts that signal into one readable by the TV’s HDMI port—that means high definition 1080p resolutions are possible (we recommend using the PC’s “extend mode” to control what resolution is used on the HDTV).

Just plug the wireless USB dongle into one of your laptop’s USB ports, then set up the small, round base station near the HDTV’s HDMI port and insert the second wireless USB dongle into it. Be sure that there are no walls or extremely large objects separating the two dongles—they need to be in each other’s line of sight, and will only operate at a distance of 30 feet or less.
