Not surprisingly, the “shank” option that comes with Facebook’s Superpoke application has been removed after stirring up some controversy with people who thought it was tasteless.
Superpoke is an application that many Facebook users are no doubt familiar with. Facebook’s own “poke” tool was designed as a way to let users get the attention of someone on their friends list. Leaving aside the fact that maybe your friends are ignoring you for a reason, Superpoke throws a little more variety into the mix and allows users numerous other options should they tire of the traditional poke. Some of these include grope, smile, pwn, wish Bill Gates a happy retirement and dry hump. Some of the less friendly options include, smack, sucker punch, drop kick and until recently, shank.
UK newspaper the Sun claims that US-based Slide, the developers of Superpoke, caved under the pressure of its phone calls demanding the shank option be removed, although we’re pretty sure it was only a matter of time before more people took notice of the application and started to kick up a fuss.
According to the Sun, a Slide spokesperson said the feature was removed lest it sully the Superpoke reputation anymore than it already had.
"Slide does not condone violence whatsoever, and our SuperPoke! application is meant to foster fun, virtual communications between friends. We have removed this particular action as it misrepresents the SuperPoke! brand."
While it’s nice to know Slide doesn’t condone virtual “shanking” among friends, we’d be interested to know why the other less “fun” virtual communications are still available.

I'd like to see a picture of the idiot at Slide who thinks shanking your friends is funny. Maybe a free week stay at hotel San Quentin will give them a new perspective on shanking your friends.
Oh my gosh, are you serious?! I can't believe anyone ever has thought this was a slight problem. I have personally used the shank superpoke at least twice. The fact that they would REMOVE this is absolutely silly, in my opinion. Why not remove the other potentially offensive ones?
I can't imagine complaining about something so silly, some people will complain about anything if given the chance.
There are the people that would file a police report if you shanked them on Facebook, then sue you for mental anguish and pain and suffering, etc.. Like my 9 year old neighbor who was arrested for assault when she threw a water balloon at another neighbor. Some people have absolutely NO sense of humor.

Anything that can possibly be used for any negative purpose, or could offend anyone, ever, is about to be banned for everyone. We'll go from womb to incubator where we will stay sedated until death if these sissies have any say in the matter.
This is why I actively offend people like this as many people as possible, they been to be reminded that there is no right to not be annoyed. Their opinions hold no weight with me, and I don't respect their beliefs just because they exist, be they religious or just the normal flavors of stupidity. Then again I guess those are one and the same.
