London (England) - Over one million Blu-ray movies have been sold in Europe, accounting for nearly three-fourths of all high-def discs in the overseas continent.
Media Control GFK International says 2007 has been a landslide for Blu-ray in Europe. According to its data, 73% of movies on HD discs sold this year were Blu-ray titles and only 27% were HD DVD.
That’s the same format preference seen in the US, but not by such a large margin. According to Home Media Research, 2007 sales have consistently given Blu-ray an edge of about two-to-one over HD DVD.
The Blu-ray Disc Association European Promotions Committee recently announced that one million BD films had been sold in Europe alone. The impressive sales figure was dominated by 300, Casino Royale, Spider-Man 3, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, the five top-selling titles, respectively.
