16. Webcam As Notebook Watchdog

Those concerned about losing their notebook to someone with sticky fingers can use the 1.3 MP Webcam built into the A7J as an electronic watchdog. The Asus Video Security tool can be configured to generate an e-mail alarm as soon as something fishy transpires in the camera's view.

Nevertheless, we expect the majority of this notebook's users will prefer to use it's camera for video chats and virtual meetings.

Touchpad And Keyboard

Because two of the four speakers in this notebook flank the keyboard, there isn't a lot of room for keyboard extras, such as a separate on-board keypad. If you want a separate keypad, you'll have to buy a USB model. We rate the A7J's keyboard feel as good, key pressure and touch met our expectations, but key return travel might be slow enough to bother faster typists.

When it comes to the switchable touchpad, however, there's nothing to complain about. It tracks the cursor accurately and includes a vertical scroll function. The driver may be configured so that inserting a USB mouse automatically disables the touchpad. We rate the large palm rest area on the keyboard deck as a strong positive, because it enables comfortable and extended keyboard input sessions.
