My Dad has a Motorola 3 watt bag phone he keeps in his car. The insulation
is coming off the spiral flex cord that connects the handset to the
transciever.

The handset requires 10-20 separate wires! Why soo darn many?

Is there an easy way to relace this cord and/ or handset? Can you buy the
cords aftermarket somewhere and just do it yourself?

In the past, those cords were very easily replicable.
My shop did a ton of them each week.

Motorola probably still stocks them.
Find a shop that works on Motorola, or try to call directly
and order one. I don't know if they'll sell directly to the public
but it's worth a shot.
