New Every 6 Months?

Has anyone ever succeeded in getting Verizon to "allow" them to pay the
same discounted price that new customers pay for a new phone if the
phone is less than one year-old? This is one of the things about Verizon
that really peeves me. My phone's screen is cracked, and they won't even
let me purchase the phone for the same price as a new customer ... even
if I commit to a 1 or 2 year contract. This all changes apparently at
the 1-year mark, when they will allow this.

Did you actually expect customer satisfaction on a problem like this from
Verizon? If they gave you or sold you a phone at a lower cost they may go
bankrupt.

You can't purchase one at the promotional price because your contract
isn't up yet, and therefore, they haven't recouped the full cost of
the phone you broke. If you didn't have insurance, then try eBay.
And did you inquire how much it would cost for them to replace the
screen as a non-warranty repair? Sometimes it's not as much as you
would think. And sometimes they'll just swap you out a refurbished
one for a flat charge.

Good advice. I'll go down tomorrow and inquire about mine. I have a crack
in the front glass of my 4400. If I could get it fixed, or repaired
cheaply, I would. Otherwise I'd just live with it until my new every 2
comes up.... December..

The price that a new customer pays is subsidized by Verizon. They recoup
their initial loss over the period of your contract. You can't expect them
to take another loss after only 6 months.

the front glass on the 4400 is a common problem, you can go to lg and order
spare glass inserts so you can fix them as they break.

forgive my ignorance, but shouldn't the LG be under the warranty with VW? I
had some problems with a V60, took it in within a year's time and they
exchanged it flat out. Refurbished, to be sure, but it functioned fine and
had a new phone warranty.

just a thought.

Cracked screens are not covered by warranty. Under what conditions
did you exchange your phone?

I believe all phones VZW carries have a 1yr. manufacturer warranty.
Most often (always?) VZW will simply swap the phone at a store rather
than have you send it in for repair and wait for it. The 1yr. warranty
covers manufacturer defects. A cracked screen is user damage and
not covered under the warranty unless it came that way or you can
show that it cracked due to a defect.

The regular insurance will cover the phone in case of loss (with
deductible).
The Total Equipment Coverage ($1/month more) will cover the phone
and accessories in case of loss and for defects. The insurance does not
cover "cosmetic" damage. As long as the phone functions they won't cover
it. So if the LCD is still readable it is cosmetic damage. As soon as the
the
LCD quits functioning it will be covered damage.

What if I am more than a year through my 2-year contract and want a
promotional deal on equipment? If I re-sign, will I get a subsidized
price or I have to wait out the full 2 years?

The policy states that you can get a new subsidized phone when you have 2
months or less on your contract and you re-sign a new contract.

I hear it quits pretty quickly after your tire rolls over it in the
VZW parking lot.:)

Expect a train on ANY track at ANY time.
"The Bush administration says the Mars mission can be accomplished for only
143.8 zillion dollars, but critics claim that the true cost is likely to be
much more like 687 fillion dillion dollars. (These numbers are imaginary,
but trust me, they're as accurate as any other cost estimates you see about
the Mars mission.)" - Dave Barry
