After six months using my Samsung VGA1000 my called parties say they
can barely hear me however I can hear them fine. Testing this with my
home phone and an alternate cell on another carrier confirms it's
weak. I will take it to a local Sprint store for service but am
curious if this is something others have also experienced. Also is it
possible this could be a problem with the local tower rather than the
phone?

I've had my VGA1000 9 months and have not had that (or any) handset
problem.

Couldn't you tell if it's the tower by moving a few miles up or down the
road to another cell?

After doing so, take it to a Sprint PCS store and have it replaced under
its one-year warranty. If they have a refurbished VGA1000 on hand to
give you, have them transfer your phonebook. If not, they might give
you a padded return envelope in which you return your old phone after
they mail you a replacement, which will probably be a refurbished phone.
If they do this, take both into the store before returning your old
one to have the phonebook transferred, if you want it.

Either way it's all Sprint's fault.

I will try that today but the Sprint store is around the corner so I
may just take it there first.

Thanks for the sound advice Frank.

Obviously, I'm no radio engineer, but I can't think of a
network/tower problem that would affect volume in only one direction.

Odds are, it's something with the phone.

Now to convince Sprint of that. The local store technician said there
was nothing wrong with the phone but clearly there is, even when
calling national customer suppport they complained they could not hear
me and I had to call back on my AT&T cell to be heard. I'm going to
deal with the manager now who I was told was unavailable when I was at
the store. If that doesn't work Sprint will lose another customer.

Sorry to hear about that. Have the tech call one of the
phones in-store and see if he can prove to you that audio
is OK. If not, you've done everything you need to get
warranty service.
