Is it the phone or the service?

Hi guys.

Im having a problem with my Samsung SCH-A310. Im not sure if its the phone
or the network. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Here's the history:
I've had this phone for over a year and a half. It has worked flawlessly
until yesterday (07-09-2004). When I'm talking on the cell phone, all of a
sudden the person Im talking to cannot here me and I cannot here that person
either. I still have 4 bars of digital signal and my connection has not
been disconnected. After about 20 seconds or so, I can hear the person Im
talking to, but they cannot hear me. After 20 or more seconds, the call
returns to normal and we resume the conversation. It has happened several
times with the same conversation. After some investigation, ie, calling
other people and having the same problem, I take it to Verizon. They
upgrade the software and the problem still persists. I go back to Verizon
and since I have insurance on my account, they gave me a new SCH-A310 at no
charge (at first, the tech told me it would be a $50 deductible to file with
insurance). The only thing that was not new is the battery. I still have
the problem. I called Verizon and a tech told me they gave a field service
unit (whatever that is) and that a ribbon inside my phone may have gone bad.
I have a differnet Verizon phone and am considering transferring my account
to it, just to see if its the phone, the area Im in, or something else.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Will

Not really. Your idea of using an alternate phone is an excellent one,
and is made simple by the fact that you can swap ESNs online at VZW's
website. That would actually be my next move if I was in your situation.

It could be the phone, or it could be the network. If you're fine with
another phone, it's probably not the network. If the other phone doesn't
work either, call and have the tech support people open a ticket - and
FOLLOW UP ON IT. Often. (I speak from personal experience.)

YES - don't let them convince you to give up a working phone because
they insist it's the phone and not their service. I ended up swapping
out two phones unnecessarily and am now "stuck" with a refurb which is
ok, but not in as good condition as the one I originally had.

Needless to say, it was the network....

Sometimes it pays not to complain too much.

Complainers always lose in the long run

I don't doubt your experience with your phone but I've had several
refurbished phones from Verizon and Sprint when I was with them. I
never found any of them to look, feel, or act anything other than new.
