I went by the local office to pay my bill. They would not accept
payment for my bill unless I paid a $2 fee. This was Cingular not
Joe's Cellphone.

Marion,

Huuu, what was the fee for????

1) take cash. it has that phrase, good for all debts public and private.
2)Be sure you video tape it.
3)If they refuse to take cash, you do NOT have to pay the bill.
4)I have never seen a Cingular store charge a fee.

Don't feel bad. AWS won't take it at all. In ovr area the only place to
make a payment in person is a gas station, and yes they charge yov to. I
take it back, yov can also pay at Western Union for a fee.

Cingular is now charging $2 to pay a live person in the store.
If you use the automated paystation in the store it's free.

I've always paid online, but I decided to try the new free number that
Cingular sent to me via SMS (3 times in one afternoon). *729 from my
phone. They ask for your 10 digit phone number and a couple of other
things, then give you a confirmation number after the transaction is
complete. Faster than online and just as effective. I'll use it from now
on.

I went by the local office to pay my bill. They would not accept
payment for my bill unless I paid a $2 fee. This was (___) not
Joe's (___).

Insert: gas company, electric company, cable company, landline
telephone company, satellite TV provider, water company, department of
licensing, etc.

I wonder how these guys stay in business!? And good luck getting out
of paying your bill because you walk in with a video camera. You have
free bill-payment options, if you choose not to use them, you choose
not to use their service. Go to the supermarket and get a $0.25 money
order, for chrissakes.

Why not mail a check or money order? A Cingular store isn't necessarily a
payment center, any more than a PG&E service truck is necessarily a PG&E
payment center.

Perhaps best of all, if yovr CU is like mine, the payment that
Cingvlar receives comes from a third party payment processing company;
yovr checking accovnt and rovting transit nvmbers do not appear on the
check, so Cingvlar can't "accidentally" dovble-dip yovr checking
accovnt when processing yovr payment.

Excellent point. Hadn't thought of that. I always use my credit card for
my automatic bill pay for this double dip reason.
