i just got an LG VX 4500 because i wanted the following features:

speakerphone
voice dial
color display
GPS 911 enabled
LCD on top of phone
no camera

given the features i want, is this phone the best or are there any others
that verizon offers that contain these same features but are better phones?

i have two weeks to try the LG 4500.

any suggestions appreciated!

I just got my 4500 too. So far, I like it, although I was torn between this
one and the tri-mode 3200, but liked the outside display of the 4500.

Analog is nice if you want to travel away from the major interstates. I was
out in Las Vegas last week, and we took a car trip about 30 miles away from
the city. That heaven I had analog, otherwise I'd be out of service!

If you can get a tri-mode phone, I'd highly recommend it. I was told that
my dual-mode 4500 would work practically everywhere. Well, I spent a week
on vacation not being able to get out at all. Go Tri-mode if you can! Good
luck.

I have basically the same needs and wants as the OP. I haven't seen
recommendations for tri-mode -- anyone care to share?

Also, does the LG4500 have a reminder ring that rings periodically
when you have a message? The LG4400 doesn't, which would be my reason
for switching.

Buddy, if you have a 4400, my advice is to keep it. Honestly.

IMHO there simply isn't another basic phone out there that's better for Verizon
right now.

I decided on the Audiovox 8900.
So far haven't found any problems with it.
Wit $5 data cable, there are ways to upload ringtones, backgrounds, etc.
There is a dedicated group to unlocking it's potential on the 8900, on
Harolds Forums.

I've heard that the speakerphone on the 8900 is kind of lackluster. Is
that your assessment as well?

And who knows if something better comes out in the next few months, I may
opt for it.

Steve mentioned earlier that he has the Samsung A650. It seems like an okay
basic phone. Especially if you need tri-mode. I would think a good
competitor, if you need tri-mode, would be the LG 3200. I believe it has a
decent speakerphone. Both of these phones, however, do not have an external
display which seems to be a minor issue for some folks.

I've kind of decided to keep my two LG 4500's since most everywhere I go the
digital signal is fine. About twice a year on vacation, I would have a
problem since the digital won't make a connection. So, I'm thinking of
getting my daughter the Nokia 3589 which is suppose to have great reception
(although the older brick design) or perhaps the LG 3200 (thinking she may
prefer the clamshell design). These are both tri-modes. On vacation, if
I'm lucky, she may let me use her phone.

You can't go wrong with the 4500. It's a great phone. In my opinon LG
& Samsung make great cell phones.

If they could only fix the color display so I could see the damn thing in
sunlight I would really be happy.

Yes - I am looking for a new phone and was comparing the LG VX3200 vs
the VX4500. I like the tri-mde feature, but not the lack of an external
display on the 3200. The 4500 just isn't tri-mode. I wish they had the
4400 out still - it was a good phone that was tri-mode and with an
external display. Is LG still making them and can I get them through
Verizon?
