I recently changed from my 500 minute GSM nation plan $39.99 with an
additional line for $9.99 to a GAIT nation plan for $45 for 400 minutes and
went to one phone on that plan since an additional line for a GAIT plan is
$19.99 instead of the $9.99 I had with the GSM plan. So since I dropped the
$9.99 line Cingular is charging me $60 for liquidated damages charge. Now
the girl on the phone who swapped my plans did tell me there would be a $20
penalty for swapping over which I didn't think was too bad but, she didn't
say it was going to be $20 a month. My contract would have been over in
December so they are charging $20 a month for the rest of my contract. It's
not like I left Cingular and it's not like they are losing $20 a month. If
anything they are only losing $5 a month in revenue since I was paying $50 a
month for the GSM nation and now I'm paying $45 for the GAIT nation and have
fewer mintues to boot. With this kind of treatment and now that my contract
is fulfilled I may very well go to the Sprint Free and Clear plan for $45
and 500 minutes and get unlimited nights and weekends instead of 1,000
nights and weekends with the GAIT plan. As long as I don't go over 500
minutes a month which I seldom even come close to then the Sprint plan looks
very appealing and they have pretty modern phones compared to the Sony T62u
and the Nokia 6340i. This will have been the second time Cingular has stuck
it to me on something like this. I don't think I will allow them a third
chance.
