Is there a shortcut to put the phone into Silent or Vibrate?

My reading comprehension is pretty good, but I can't get the hang of using
the Ring Volume control on this thing.

I've been reduced to turning the phone off at weddings, funerals and
meetings.

Thanks!

Just use the down volume control button. The step down from "1" is
"Vibrate," and the next step down after that is "Silent." I suspect you're
trying to do it with the phone closed. IT ONLY WORKS WHEN THE PHONE OPEN.

It would be nice to do this when the phone is closed, but you're
correct, you can only do the quick ring volume down to vibrate or
silent when the phone is open.

Yes you can select your ringer types quickly with the flip closed.

With the v60s closed, push either of the volume buttons. The outer
display on the flip should now indicate what ring mode the phone is in
(Loud, Silent, Vibrate, etc.)

Then push the "smart key" button on the left side of the phone below
the volume buttons to step through the selections. Each push of this
button steps through the various ringer settings (Loud, Soft, Vibrate,
Vibe&Ring, Silent, back to Loud again).

When the display shows the desired ringer setting, push either of the
volume buttons to select it. That's all...

Thanks... I didn't know that!

"Reduced"? How about "gained some perspective" or "exhibited basic human
decency"?

Yes, push the "smart" button than toggle the settings with the up/down
buttons, than push smart button again. It will go from silent, vibe,
vibe/ring, loud, soft.

BTW this can all be done with the phone closed.

I had to have my phone on during my best friend's funeral earlier this
year because I was awaiting a call from the clerk of court. I was
under a subpoena to appear as a witness, but was excused by the court
for the period of the funeral, "as long as they could contact me to
come to court if needed." Fortunately, I wasn't called to testify.

Sometimes that's just how life works.

uhhh, no. It's kind of indicative of how self centered we have
become. Are you saying that if you didn't own a cell phone the
court wouldn't have given you the dispensation? "I will allow you
to go to the funeral under the condition that you have a cell phone
and keep it turned on."...? Somehow I doubt it.

1) give them 2 numbers. Your cell phone to try first and the phone
number of the funeral parlour to try second.

2) give them you cell phone number and forward your cell phone
to the funeral parlour during the funeral.

If it was outside at the cemetary I imagine that the funeral people
have in car phones and other discreet ways to communicate.
Even so, how long does it take for the ceremony outside of
the parlour? you couldn't have waited to check your vmail?

give me a break,

Well,

Though I wouldn't ever leave the phone on to ring at a wedding or funeral,
there are, in fact, times when I am at a meeting when I'm expecting a call
with some needed information FOR the meeting.
Should the phone "ring" (vibe) while the meeting is ongoing, it's a lot more
polite to excuse oneself and answer the call outside the room than it would
be to annoy 25 people with a ringing phone.

I mentioned weddings/funerals because I'd still like to know when an
important call comes in, and from whom, even though I may not be able to
answer or return the call right away. I have occasionally forgotten to turn
the phone back on when leaving the above, and missed a call that way.

Please don't forget that everyone has their own reasons for carrying a cell
phone. Not all of us are or want to be rude, nor to bore anyone else with
our calls. If I did, I'd carry a Nextel and leave it on "speaker" all the
time. I'm always surprised at how many Nextel users aren't familiar with the
"speaker off" button, seems they'd rather use it like a walkie-talkie, no
matter where they are.

Etiquette in general seems to be a dying art, and ignorance of cell phone
etiquette is just a manifestation of that problem.

Thanks to all for the very useful instructions.

You can also just hit the up/down volume button (with the flip closed) to
"silence" the V60s (and most Motorola phones, in general) when it rings or
vibrates.
