Hi NG

I was wondering if I should put my device (iPaq with SD card) and Digital
Camera (HP with CF Card) on the manuel check in airports togheter with my
wallet and keys, or is it safe enought to let it be scanned without risking
the data on them?

(You knew, like an audio or VHS tape on a loudspeakers magnet, thats not
safe) :-(

Best regards

Shouldn't be a problem. My PPCs and Cameras with CF and SD have been
through dozens of scannings with no ill effect.

I've traveled for several years now with one or another being scanned in my handbag. Never had a problem.

I have traveled all over the world and never had a problem on SD and CF in
my PDA and CF in Digital camera's. Only heard of one co-workers having a MMC
problem when he went thru either the Kiev, Ukraine airport or the St. Pet.
Russia as those sometimes have the older series scanners that are higher
powered. If any worry about it, just go to a camera store and get one of the
lead lined X-Ray foil packs for film. One of my engineers carries his CF,
and SD cards in one of those Altoids (Breath mint) small leadbased
containers.

I've travelled with Compact Flash and IBM microdrive and never had any
problems, and I've never personally met anyone who has had problems. Is it
one of those strange rumours that get out of control (an old wives tale?)
It maybe compounded by warnings they put on those machines, but are there
warnings?- I can't say I've read one on them. Maybe a throwback to (carry on
from?) camera film?

I would imagine the makers will be a bit non-committal about the subject,
without a definitive answer- probably with a bit that says 'at your own
risk'. Who makes those things?
