I just posted this in microsoft.public.handheld, but thought someone here
may be able to help as well, since this is an ActiveSync problem:

I'm installing ActiveSync for the first time on a WinXP Prof system. I'm
having a strange problem. I've downloaded the latest version (3.7.1) and
saved it to my drive. When I double-click on the msasync.exe file, it
shows that it is extracting a series of files from the exe (though it
doesn't prompt me where to save them). Once the files are extracted,
nothing further happens. I tried doing the same thing on a different
computer (just to see if the download was okay) and it extracted the files
the same way, but then launched into the installer automatically (so i
know the msasync.exe file is a good download). On the problem machine, I
then tried booting into safe mode and running the msasync.exe again from
there, but the same thing happened -- no installer ever launches. Any
ideas on what else I can try??

ps: Eventually, I will be using ActiveSync to connect to my Jornada 720
that I just got -- I can't wait to play with it & was to get this working
asap!!! Thank you!

Hi Sheree,

Before installing ActiveSync, make sure you are having administrator rights
on the computer. Then try deleting all the files in the Windows user's
"Temp" folder, before you try to reinstall ActiveSync. The "Temp" folder is
used for storing temporary files that are used during the installation
processes. On your desktop,

- Click Start ->Run and type

%temp%

- Click OK. It will open your Temp folder. Delete the contents here and
then try.
