Reprogramming flash

Hi,

I don't know if it's the right NG to ask, but I'll give it a try... ;)

I'd like to install Linux on my iPAQ h5550. On opie.handhelds.org, I
found a package with a new bootloader, etc. It comes with a program
BootBlaster, which can backup the bootloader and wince, and overwrite
the flash memory.

Anyway, I ran the program, luckily it didn't crash while modifying the
flash memory :)
The next step says me to press the joystick button, and meanwhile press
the reset button. After a while, a splash screen of the new bootloader
should appear, but it doesn't. After a second, the iPAQ vibrates, and
then it freezes. No screen interaction, and even the power button seems
useless. When I press the reset button (soft-reset), the iPAQ works
again, but it still seems to use the wince bootloader

Has anyone experience with this? Please help.

Jasper.

Go have a look at http://www.handhelds.org. They also have a mailing list
and an irc channel

Personally i've read Handheld.org's site about the iPAQ's but won't
attempt anything of the sort until my iPAQ is aged and out of warranty.
Read the instructions carefully, and try the steps again and see if
there is any change. the button timing can be pretty tricky as the
device will obviously react much faster than you and can be done
waiting when you are still watching for signs of change.
You could also try to contact the project owners for information, they
have far more knowledge of the work needed to get it working properly.
