Phone Number format

Does anyone know how to stop PPC2003 from formatting the
owner phone number in the format (nnn) nnn-nnnn? It
really annoys me the way Microsoft assumes every phone
number in the world follows the US format...

TIA

Are you saying this is everywhere in your ppc, or in one application, or
more? Which one(s)? Have you checked that you have the correct country set
rather that the default which will be USA.

I was referring specifically to the Owner information as
displayed on the Today screen. Outlook etc performs
normally, ie I can format phone numbers any way I like.

Yes, Regional Settings set to English (Australia). You
might notice that these don't apparently extend to phone
number formats - they're not listed anywhere in Regional
Settings.

In owner information on my machine I have free form access- no forced
formatting the American way. UK ROM, perhaps it is the way your maker has
made your machine- ask them?

Why not ignore that field and put your phone number in notes, formatted as
you like. Tick the box to display it on startup if that is what you want.

Oh, OK, sounds like a good idea. My machine is an iPAQ
5450 so maybe it's an HP thing.

Thanks

There is an option to set Country/Region.

My fujitsu-loox 610 does the exactly the same so its not a HP thing. I did
get it right though after trying 10 times and deleting half the number,
adding the - myself and various other attempts. Must be a bug that got it
right for me.

Hi Sven,

Thanks for the suggestion but this setting has no effect
on the Today screen format... AFAIK Outlook has always
formatted as typed anyway so I'm not even sure what this
setting is supposed to do!

Hi Ian,

Yes, sorry about that, I realised after I sent that I was not quite answering
the question you asked. However, on my PPC (iPAQ 4150) the owner number is not
in US format and I thought that perhaps the above setting was the reason.

I did have to use the above setting though to prevent my contacts from
defaulting to the US form of addresses.

Sven.

On my 4150, the phone humber was formatted in the US style.
Simply went back in and changed it. This is with Aussie
regional settings defined.
